Hampton Beach’s next generation: ‘Old’ guard gives way to new investors. Here’s why.

HAMPTON — With her Blue Jay Motel sold for $1.1 million, Mary Lamontagne said she can comfortably retire after more than 70 years of her family running the business on Hampton Beach.

She sold it to beach investor Terry Daidone last October. If she wasn’t about to turn 70, she said, she would keep going. She said she waited for the right person to take over the long-standing beach motel to keep it running smoothly for her loyal patrons.

“We have four generations. Their good will that we passed on to Terry, it’s going to be good for him,” Lamontagne said. “We believed in hospitality, and I believe Mr. Daidone believes in hospitality.”
