Staff Report, New Hampshire Union Leader

Firefighters were battling a blaze at the Red Jacket Resort in North Conway on Saturday afternoon, working into the evening to knock down the fire.

All guests were accounted for, but the fire destroyed much of the building.

Flames could be seen from the south end of the building just after 2:30 p.m., according to passerby who posted photos and videos on social media.

Firefighters arrived to the Red Jacket just after 2:45 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, according to a news release from the state Fire Marshal’s office, they saw heavy fire and smoke pouring from the third floor.

Firefighters saw guests jumping from balconies to escape the fire — all landed safely.

By 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the south wing was engulfed in flames, and by 5 p.m. the fire had spread toward the center lobby.

Firefighters from several towns were battling the fire and the gusty winds fanning the flames.

Two firefighters and one civilian were treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries, and taken to Memorial Hospital as a precaution.

All hotel guests have been accounted for, according to the state Fire Marshal’s office, and another resort offered rooms for the displaced vacationers.
