Council votes to allow food trucks, moves to acquire land for Merrimack River Greenway Trail

Anyone who has dreamed of running a taco truck and fans of rolling restaurant cuisine can rejoice this week: The Concord City Council voted on Monday to modernize the peddler’s ordinance, allowing the regular operation of food trucks in the city for the first time.

The older version of the ordinance assumed that any peddler would be male and has various restrictions, like prohibiting selling items within 1,000 feet of a street with a church while church was in session.

Under the new city ordinance, food truck operators can sell food from any parking spot on a public street, as long as the area is not zoned for residential use. Hours are limited to 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., although the city’s Health and Licensing Officer can make exceptions.
