PORTSMOUTH – Chef Bobby Marcotte won’t be able to open a new restaurant at the former Getty Station on Islington Street as planned after a city board narrowly rejected his request for an occupancy variance this week.
Marcotte, who is known for his appearances on the Food Network and for winning national culinary awards, said the proposed restaurant can’t open at the site with just the 50-person occupancy that’s allowed there under city zoning.
“That’s not enough for us. We’ll have to move along and find a new location,” he said when reached Thursday.
