Downtown Nashua’s expanded outdoor dining could return as early as March 15 — two days before St. Patrick’s Day.
“That is a big revenue source for some of these businesses,” said economic development director Tim Cummings, about the popular Irish celebration that draws droves of patrons to local bars and restaurants.
Last summer, Main Street temporarily was narrowed to allow restaurants to place outdoor tables on part of the roadway. Large concrete barriers separated traffic from diners.
“We want to make sure we have this in place by March 15,” Cummings told the aldermanic committee on infrastructure last week.
A formal request is being made to aldermen to allow for the barriers to be installed before St. Patrick’s Day, which is on a Wednesday this year.
