McSharrys buy, reinvent historic Portsmouth inn
By: Elizabeth Dinan

Owner of six restaurants, a microbrewery and a martini bar in Portsmouth, Jay McSharry recently purchased a nine-bedroom inn he’s renovating, rebranding and reopening with his wife Amanda by the end of August.

McSharry and his wife recently purchased the circa 1800 Inn at Strawbery Banke, which was owned and operated for 27 years by Sarah “Sally” O’Donnell.

“I feel like it complements the restaurants well,” said Jay McSharry, owner of Jumpin’ Jay’s Fish Cafe, Dos Amigos Burritos, The Red Door, Moxy, White Heron Tea & Coffee, Vida Cantina, The Franklin Oyster House, Liar’s Bench Beer Company and One Middle Street LLC.

The historic inn is a two-story clapboard-sided Greek Revival building, on a quiet South End street, that’s walking distance from the waterfront, Prescott Park and Market Square. City assessing records report the 314 Court St. building has 4,522 square feet of living space, and the McSharrys are making cosmetic improvements throughout.
