Two big events this month
By: Mike Cote
April offers a double-feature for the Granite State tourism industry.
Business leaders and tourism officials will be gathering twice this month, first to learn the latest trends from outside experts and then to meet with international tour operators who bring travelers to the region.
First up is the Governor's Conference on Travel and Tourism on April 18 at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord. The New Hampshire Travel Council event (nhtravelcouncil.com/events) features panel discussions with industry representatives from California, New Mexico, Minnesota and other locales.
Vicki Cimino, director of the New Hampshire Division of Travel and Tourism, said the goal this year is to bring in as many outsiders as possible.
"This year, I had a rule: Everyone on a panel discussion has to be from another destination, from somewhere else," Cimino said, "so that New Hampshire's tourism industry can hear how San Francisco developed their culinary tourism product, how New Mexico developed its cultural tourism product, how Mammoth Lakes, California, had to shift its tourism product to be a little less dependent on weather."
