Puritan Backroom, a must stop for presidential candidates, marks 100 years in business
By: Paul Steinhauser

Chris Pappas says reaching the century mark at the famed Puritan Backroom is “a neat milestone to reach because we don’t see a lot of other family businesses that make it to that point.”

Pappas is co-owner and runs the family owned restaurant, which was started by his great grandfather in a store front on Hanover Street in 1917.

The restaurant, which long ago moved to Hooksett Street on the north side of Manchester, Wednesday celebrated the milestone of reaching the century mark by giving away free cones all day at the ice cream window, holding an open house in the Pappas function room with live Greek music and door prices, and retro menu specials in the Backroom Restaurant.

Pappas, a Democrat who last November was re-elected to a third term representing District 4 on New Hampshire’s five member Executive Council, told NH1 News the milestone is “just a time to say thank you to the people who work for us and the people of the Manchester area that have sustained us for the last century.” Read more at NH1.com.
