Gas prices: Summer peak expected around $2.70; experts see little impact on tourism

Holderness innkeeper Bill Webb said his bookings are strong for the summer and doesn’t think a predicted 40-cent-a-gallon hike in gas prices nationwide this summer will hurt his business.

“I think psychologically if it hits three dollars, people would start to worry a little bit,” said Webb, co-owner of the Inn on Golden Pond, named after the 1981 movie.

AAA predicted the average for a gallon of gas will peak near $2.70 this summer.

In New Hampshire, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline stood at $2.22 Wednesday, two cents more than a month ago and 21 cents higher than a year ago.

“We cannot predict how a gas price increase might impact the summer tourism season in New Hampshire,” said Kris Neilsen, communications manager with the Division of Travel and Tourism Development. Read more at UnionLeader.com.
