The Planning Board unanimously approved beginning design review of a plan by Cathartes Private Investments to build a five-story, 143-room hotel next to 3S Artspace in the city's North End.

The board also set a public hearing on the project for its April 20 meeting.

The proposal also calls for the developer to create "a 43,325-square-feet public park along the North Mill Pond waterfront, which will be constructed in two phases and a 2,869-square-foot public path from Vaughan Street to the waterfront park," according to a memo written by Planning Director Rick Taintor.

The Planning Board on Thursday focused only on whether "the request (for design review) contains enough information to allow the board to understand the project and identify potential issues and concerns," Taintor said. Read more at SeacoastOnline.com.
