Gas Light Co. restaurant reopening 8 months after fire

The Gas Light Co. restaurant is scheduled to reopen next week, almost eight months after it was closed due to damage from a four-alarm fire.

Restaurant spokesman Travis Glazier said inspections are scheduled for this week and, "We feel positive that will go well." Pending those inspections, he said, a couple of private events are scheduled before the public opening which is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 3.
Gas Light owner Paul Sorli said in April that he'd hoped to reopen then, but permitting and construction took longer than expected. The Market Square restaurateur assured that gift cards will be honored when the Gas Light reopens and that he has 5,000 customers with frequent diner cards which remain valid.
The Dec. 9 fire at the 1800 brick building, at 64 Market St., drew firefighters from dozens of area departments and is believed to have started in a vent to a wood-fired oven. Fire, smoke and water damage closed the restaurant, an upstairs nightclub and the basement pizza pub. Read more from the
