Gary's Beverages ready for future
By Elizabeth Dinan

After 15 years of operating Gary's Beverages on Deer Street, Rita Patel is putting the final touches on plans to close that store and open two others.

The Deer Street building is scheduled to be demolished but until then, Patel said, business will be as usual. That means steady customer lines for beer, cigarettes, lottery tickets and snacks.
This week or next, contingent upon permitting, Patel will open a new Gary's Beverages on the Route 1 Bypass, at the former Mama D's restaurant property. Rita and Dipak Patel bought the property in September 2014 for $405,000 and are ready to stock the newly-installed shelves, as soon as the city issues a food license and the state grants a liquor license.
Rita Patel said the building has been renovated, an occupancy permit has been granted and all of the vendors are ready to deliver.
"We'd really like to open next week," she said Friday. "We will have the same things at the same price. We will continue running the parallel store for a month or two, until both stores are running smoothly." Read more from
