Jordan's Ice Creamery to open shop in Laconia
By Bob Martin
Jordan’s Ice Creamery has been a staple of the Belmont community for more than two decades and now they will expand their business into Laconia with a shop located at the former site of Funspot’s miniature golf course with the opening slated for early July.
Owner Craig Jordan said they will be leasing the building being built by Funspot, which he hopes to be constructed by the end of June. He said while they have been in talks with Funspot for about three years about the possibility of a new shop, this didn’t come to fruition until about two weeks ago.
“Finally they came to us and said they would build the building for us,” said Jordan. “Funspot is a very busy place and that road is obviously a very busy road. We think it should work well.”
Jordan is excited for the new ice cream shop and hopes that it will not only bring in additional customers from this side of the Lakes Region, but will also ease things up a bit at their busy Belmont location.
“I don’t think we will cannibalize too much of our own business, but also we think it might take a little bit of the business in Belmont which isn’t necessarily a bad thing,” said Jordan.
Jordan said while there is no such thing as too much business, he said the time for a new shop is right as they are constantly packed in Belmont and don’t have room to expand.
Jordan said he has customers who travel to Belmont from places like Meredith and other northern Lakes Region towns so they think this will be easier for them to get to and, in turn, the lines won’t be quite so long at the increasingly popular Belmont location. He said people can expect a very similar atmosphere and product at the new shop.
“We are trying to do pretty much the same thing as we have over here,” said Jordan. “We’ll have all our own ice cream and waffle cones. There will be some minor differences but it will be a second Jordan’s essentially.” Read more from the citizen.com.
