Reopening of Gas Light Co. delayed

Four months after a fire closed the Gas Light Co. restaurant, owner Paul Sorli said the reopening has been postponed until late June or early July.

Sorli said he'd hoped to reopen this month, but the permitting and construction work is taking longer than expected. He said a construction crew is now working longer shifts and he's still planning for a staggered opening, with the pizza pub opening ahead of the nightclub, but that remains uncertain.
In response to comments from patrons who posted on the restaurant's Facebook page, saying they're looking forward to Gas Light Co. pizza, Sorli said, "Me too."
The Market Square restaurateur assured that gift cards will be honored when the Gas Light reopens. He said he also has 5,000 customers with frequent diner cards and that those cards will remain valid.
In February, Sorli told the Portsmouth Herald that he had insurance protection for six months of business losses and expected that he'll come close to needing it all. He said his insurance also covers keeping his managers on the payroll while the business is closed and that he's subsidizing continued health insurance coverage for some employees. Read more from
